Reading through Authors at the Book Blogger Hop

This week's question comes from Christina who blogs at The Paperback Princesses.  She asks: "If you find a book you love, do you hunt down other books by the same author?"

My Answer: Yes, I do...eventually. If I really liked a book I'll look up the author and see what else s/he has written but it may take awhile before I read the other books. I think I do this for two reasons. First, I do enjoy variety so if the author is a genre writer then I might hold off just so I'm not reading the same type of books. Secondly, I was not a big reader as a kid or teen. So, in a way I always feel like I'm playing catch up and need to get a base-line of background reading hence the need for variety. Actually, I think the second reason is dumb and just me pressuring myself unnecessarily.

Examples of authors' books I've hunted:
-Amy Tan                  -Charlotte Bronte          -Tobias Wollf
                 -Sherman Alexi       -Jane Austen

If you're hopping by, hi! Do say hello! And check out my poetry giveaway in celebration of National Poetry Month! There are some fun poems made out of book titles by myself and other bloggers as well. Not sure what a book titles poem looks like? Then check out the link!

    1. Well variety is the spice of life but sometimes the familiar is comforting. Hello from the hop!

    2. Rather than purchase the entire back list of a new favorite author, I try to get them through the library. Come see which author I'm reading through right now.

    3. I'm always playing catch up and I read pretty fast! I have a bit of a book hoarding issue though :)

    4. Hi
Just hopping by and following through. I tend to get a bit obsessed when I find an author I like

    5. Love your list of authors book you have hunted, some of my favorites!

    6. I have read most of the books by three of your authors - I too follow an author if I like them the first time around.

    7. I like a nice mix of the familiar with variety...thanks for sharing.

    8. Thanks for stopping by Book Love on the Hop :) I'm a huge Sherman Alexie fan as well!!! And I got super excited when I saw Claudette Colvin: Twice Toward Justice was your current read. What a phenomenal book! Just curious... which Chris Crutcher books have you read? I would HIGHLY recommend Deadline and Angry Management.

    9. Hopping by to see what is new! Enjoy the rest of your weekend.

    10. Katie, I am enjoying Claudette Colvin! The photographs hit home how different thing were. I've only read one of C.C.'s books, The Sledding Hill, and was less than impressed. I know others who've read Staying Fat for Sarah Byrnes and Whale Talk and none of them liked the books either. He's definitely a "message" writer and I didn't enjoy being hit over the head...but that's me!

    11. Great choice of authors.
